THE FIRST FEW COLLAGES I MADE

In junior year of college after being inspired by the first zine I encountered, I worked as the Zine Library Intern & ran it's club at the Sojourner Truth Library on campus. Utilizing my new hobby for a project in my queer theory course, I created zines to summarize a couple of our readings on "Capitalism & Gay Identity" and "QUARE - a queer of color critique". Thinking I was going to continue along this textured & patterned version of the self-published booklets, I named my Instagram handle "threedeezeens" which stuck around longer than my zine-making had.

What I realized over the year as a member in this community was that I really liked the collage aspect I was bringing to these creations more than the hand-held 8 page boundaries in which I was creating them. Right around the time my Bachelor's of Arts thesis proposal was nearing, I abandoned the idea of the zine as a vessel for my art & fully embraced larger, less informative, individualized pieces.

I worked for hours on end in the living room of my dingy apartment creating original collages, an art book (full of more collages), a stand for the zines I had made & an outfit to wear for the Senior Thesis show. The cover for my first art book was a collaged self-portrait expressing my discomfort as an individual within the structure of our global society - now the face of my artistic identity - Eucalypschitz.

Since moving out of New York & finding myself in the art city of my dreams, I set out on a mission to rebrand myself as an artist including an orientation towards maximalism for both 2D/3D pieces while utilizing more upcycled elements & the publishing of my website - complete with the ability to sell my work online. Some of my future ideas for the incorporation of new mediums include stained glass, embossed textures, paper mache/upcycled frames & utilizing relief printing techniques.
